Igby Goes Down - 2002

It always mystified me — the moments in movies where you see people fallen asleep, particularly on the road, while traveling somewhere or leaving some place. It occurred to me that such scenes are usually connected to key moments or turn points in the story. They appear either before something important is about to happen, or just after. Like the silence before and after a Storm.

I’ve captured these shots out of selected list of movies, old and recent, to show just how beautiful and magical sleep on the road usually looks in Cinema.

Finally, I’ve managed to grab the Fuji X100 from a recent stock. I think some of you know how hard it is to get hold of this jam of a camera, since the imports from Japan are seldom and few — and the ones that arrive sell like cup-cakes! So it was a beautiful day out and I decided to take it for a spin. Only the body this time, without the external

A self portrait of Stanley Kubrick with his daughter, Jack Nicholson and the crew @ the set of The Shining.

A selection of some of the most awesome Behind-the-scenes shots I’ve seen from some famous movies. Back when set designs were huge and hand made, when special effects where mechanical and photographic and film stars were risking their lives on the set.

The Vondelpark (Vondel Park) is the most central and one of the prettiest public parks in Amsterdam — even more so after the recent renovations. During the spring in warm sunny days, it’s hard not to find the park (overly) populated with people enjoying the fresh air. But I grabbed my T2 and managed to take these recent pictures in early morning

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, along with members of the national security team, receive an update on the mission against Osama bin Laden in the Situation Room of the White House, May 1, 2011. Photo by Pete Souza.

I just love this photo. This caption you see above is the original caption provided by the White House for this photo (One out of 8 images revealed by the White House). My opinion is that it doesn’t do this fascinating scene much justice. Notice the scrambled/pixelated print on the laptop. Click on the photo to see it bigger.

Amsterdam, the Dam — 16 April 2011. The City participated in the national protest/manifestation against Nuclear Energy. Many Amsterdam residents and people from neighbor cities gathered at the central Dam square to join the word and shout to the Government to stop the plans for new Nuclear Energy Plants. This was hardly the type of event we use to know from 15-20 years ago were images of people protesting in the streets and violent rallies breaking loose between the Police and the demonstrators, were marked in everyone’s memory.

4,6000.00 Hours, London 2004 © Alastair Thain

I always find myself fascinated by artists that make their own gear to fit their work-flow and achieve the compelling results they do. Alastair Thain is such a photographer. As an idea partly inspired by the US military, that used large format cameras equipped with powerful airborne flashes to photograph the Vietnam jungle at night, so does Alastair build his own custom made camera constructions to photograph his scenes.

The World of Lori Nix is full of fascination and curious stories, told with a whimsy sense of humor and a lot of patience. Dealing with themes such as the apocalypse, danger and disaster,
