Zombieland opening title sequence
I’m almost positive all of you who already watched Zombieland know all this to be true. I gave it another watch this weekend and realized yet again just how brilliant the opening title sequence really is! Being a zombie comedy flick, the opening sequence is as gruesome as it is hilarious, showing people being hunted by blood-crazed zombies. Each mini-scenario is carefully constructed as we watch them form in slow motion into these perfect compositions of absurd mayhem! All that to the sounds of Metalica’s “For Whom the Bells Tolls”. But what made it even more successful to me is how well it depicted people from different levels of society, from the common person to the business men to the public service personnel to the homeless and even the criminal, all being hunted by the zombies and no one is spared. The slow-motion cinematography works very effectively here leaves us marvel each shot as ready to be framed and hung in a contemporary art gallery. Just inspiring good! So good in fact it leaves the rest of the movies to live up to it, which for the most part it does.
Ben Conrad of Logan was responsible for the titles sequence and “the rules” typography featured throughout the movie. You can read an interview with him here and find out more about the making of this amazing opening sequence. Plus watch the full opening of the movie of course. Recommended!
